Do you remember the prefixes subject? As I’ve promised, we’re continuing the discovery of the prefixes.

What are prefixes? A prefix is an affix which is placed before the root of a word. Adding it to the beginning of the word changes it to another one. For example, when the prefix un- is added to the word happy, it creates the word unhappy.

All of us is acquainted with some of them.

For example, anti-. And of course, you can easily guess the meaning of the following words as ‘antihero’ or ‘antisocial.’

As you could have guessed, ‘anti’ prefix means ‘opposed to’ or ‘against something,’ ‘contrary’ or ‘in place of.’

We may use in the composition of various English words. We may often shorten it to ant. We also take this prefix to say about symptoms and diseases, when we mean some curative results or process.

Let’s find more words with the same prefix and try to define their meanings:

Yes, I won’t share this information, as I want your brain to work. Wink! Though you shouldn’t be afraid, it’s ok.

Think about a piece of antibacterial soap in your bathroom. Usually, people use it to wash out the “bacteria” that are supposed to be on our dirty hands. Stop in this room for a second to look for anti dandruff shampoo, got it. Somewhere in the bathroom, some people may stock the anti-fat medicines. Or maybe more close to the kitchen, it depends on the preferences.

And also we live in some small peaceful countries or cities only thanks to some huge and active antiwar actions. I don’t know what it means in your state or town, and I don’t want to hurt you or make you sad. For example, in my city, there’s only city administration which keeps out home in the clean and fresh state. You know, when your mind is sharp, and your thoughts are bright, you won’t create any antisocial activities.

And so on, we’re defining the words and expanding our vocabulary. For example, I like the following terms and their meaning: anti-panic (oops, I like to panic, if there were an anti-panic medicine, I would be calmer!), anticancer (as this medicine or actions could have saved more lives than antiwar measures). Find some words that you already use in your daily lives, then discover some new ones, study them and find where to implement them for your sake.
